How to Spend a Week in Palma With the Family
Without a doubt Palma is Mallorcas greatest treasure – a 13th-century Christian city that has the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea lapping at its feet. Offering a wealth of attractions, Palma is the perfect holiday destination for families who are looking to explore a culturally rich place that also offers fantastic beaches for those lazy days.
Spend a Week in Palma de Mallorca With the Family
Day one
Like any family holiday, youll want to make it as hassle free as possible and that starts as soon as you touch down at Palma airport. Avoid having to navigate public transport, and instead pre-book your Palma airport transfers transportation to take you from the arrival lounge to the hotel lobby in no time.
Ideally youll want to stay in a hotel thats centrally located and has the added benefit of a pool area to refresh you after a day of sightseeing. The first day of any holiday is all about getting your bearings, and the best way to do this to have a wander, or why not take a ride on a Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour?
Day two to four
Once youve found your feet, its all about exploring. Nestled in the hilltops above the city is the truly enchanting 14th-century Bellver Castle. Kids will love running through the tunnels and secret staircases that lead to and from various levels. Not to mention the lookout towers provide stunning views of the Bay of Palma.
Perhaps one of the citys most famous landmarks is the impressive Catedral de Mallorca. Predominantly Gothic, work began on the cathedral in 1300 and wasnt completed until 1601 the result is a truly strangely beautiful aesthetic. Its fair to say even children will feel awed by its presence.
If your little ones need a bit of light relief from all the historical sights, then Palma Aquarium is a must. Housing 55 tanks and more than 8000 different specimens of around 700 different species. They also have Mediterranean gardens and a tropical jungle on their roof. If youre feeling brave, you can go diving with Reef and Tiger sharks too.
Day five and six
Take the train de Soller along the 27km route from Palma to Soller a charming rural town set in a lush valley between the mountains and the sea. Not for the fainthearted, at times it feels like youre on a runaway train with the mountainous twists and turns the vintage locomotive has to endure but the views are more than worth it. And kids will love the novelty of the journey.
For a fun filled day out, head to Marineland Mallorca. Situated on the coast between Palma Nova and Magaluf, the popular dolphin shows wow the crowds. Walk through an underwater tunnel and watch the dolphins frolic. Marineland also has an impressive tropical house with reptiles, piranhas, and tropical birds. You can also see penguins, sea lions, and turtles.
Day seven
The last day of any holiday is always bittersweet. Spend the day relaxing at Calo Des Moro. A stunning beach with crystal clear waters. For many years the beach was described as a secret tip not so anymore. Get here early to secure your spot on the fine golden sand and enjoy a day snorkelling and sunbathing.
